Los Angeles police have joined Arizona authorities in the investigation of two possibly related decapitations, one in Los Angeles in 1985 and another in Arizona this month, officials said.
The headless corpse of the first victim, Diane Cole, 42, was found in an alley near downtown Los Angeles on Oct. 1, 1985, Detective Don Ferrell said. Cole, an occasional prostitute, was identified through fingerprints, Ferrell said.
The headless body of another woman was found Feb. 6 in the Arizona desert along westbound Interstate 10 about 60 miles west of Phoenix, Ferrell said. The unidentified woman was between 35 and 45, he said.
Both women’s bodies were found in trash bags, Ferrell said, noting, “There are definite similarities in the two murders.”
