A new survey found that after-school viewing by children is down 17% since November, 1985, suggesting, says the Assn. of Independent Television Stations, that afternoon action cartoon shows are losing their attraction. The association said TV production companies are gearing up with alternative live-action programming, such as children’s game shows. Trade publications indicate there are talk shows, variety, magazine and even court shows in preparation for the highly sought-after school-age viewing audience.
