Loyola Marymount, bearing down on the national scoring lead, will play host to Gonzaga tonight at 7:30 and to Portland Saturday night at 7:30 in West Coast Athletic Conference basketball games.
Loyola (14-3), winner of 11 straight, is 4-0 in conference play and in first place. The Lions, who have scored at least 100 points 11 times, are averaging 106.9 points a game, just behind national leader Oklahoma, which is averaging 107.7. Center Hank Gathers leads the WCAC in scoring with 23.2 points a game.
Gonzaga (10-7, 1-3) managed to hold Loyola to 85 points last week in Spokane, Wash., but lost by 13. The Bulldogs are led by Doug Spradley’s 19.6-point average, but the guard has been drawing tougher defense lately and is averaging 16 in WCAC games. Forward Danny Roe has taken up the slack, scoring 18.3 a game.
