Pepperdine, which has lost injured point guard Marty Wilson for the rest of the season, will play Portland in a West Coast Athletic Conference basketball game at 7:30 tonight at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu.
Wilson, a 6-foot 3-inch junior who was averaging a team-high 6.6 assists a game, underwent surgery this week for ligament and cartilage injuries in his left knee. He was hurt in the second half of Saturday night’s game, which the Waves won, 91-81, at Portland.
Wilson will be replaced by 6-foot senior Donny Moore, who started 22 of 30 games in 1986-87 when Wilson sat out the season because of a back injury. Moore has been the first guard off the bench this season.
The Waves (11-6 overall and 3-1 in the WCAC) are in third place behind Loyola Marymount (4-0) and Santa Clara (4-1). Portland, which has lost all four of its WCAC games, is 5-12 overall.
