Northeast Shivers at 29 Below

Another record cold morning made for a rude awakening across the eastern third of the country today as temperatures plunged far below zero in New England.
The temperature plummeted to 29 degrees below zero in Marlow, N.H., 28 below in Canaan, Vt., and 20 below in both Lovell, Me., and in North Amherst, Mass. The U.S. Weather Service reported record lows of 14 below in Windsor Locks, Conn., and 5 below in Warwick, R.I. Temperatures dipped below freezing across the Southeast, where a low of 9 degrees in Knoxville, Tenn., far surpassed the overnight low of 22 degrees in Anchorage, Alaska.
