Jim Bakker denied reports that he and his wife, Tammy Faye, are seeking $1.3 million from the PTL ministry they once headed and instead accused it of staging a “hate campaign” against them. The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C., reported that the Bakkers have filed a claim in U.S. Bankruptcy Court seeking $1.3 million from the television ministry for the lakeside parsonage they occupied while heading PTL. Although the claim was filed last August, the PTL apparently just filed a response to it. Ryan Hovis, Bakker’s attorney in Rock Hill, S.C., said the claim was filed last year as a legal procedure so the Bakkers could be involved in PTL’s bankruptcy hearings.
