A 72-year-old San Diego woman killed when her car collided with another one that was backing out of a Federal Boulevard driveway was identified Tuesday by police as Luz C. Gomez.
Gomez, of the 800 block of Toyne Street, became the first traffic-related fatality on San Diego streets this year, according to police spokesman Bill Robinson. Last year, there were 118 traffic deaths in the city, compared with 95 the year before, he said.
The woman died of multiple chest and abdominal injuries at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday at UC San Diego Medical Center, Deputy Coroner George Dickason said.
Gomez was eastbound on Federal Boulevard near 47th Street when the unidentified driver of the other car pulled out of his driveway and into the path of her car about 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
The other driver was not injured or cited, police said.
