Kentucky, unbeaten in nine games, returned to the top of the Associated Press’ college basketball poll, replacing Arizona, by receiving 40 first-place votes from sportswriters.
Pittsburgh (9-0) also moved up one place from last week to No. 2.
Arizona (12-1), which had been No. 1 for the last two weeks, dropped to third after its first loss of the season, a 61-59 defeat to New Mexico last Saturday night.
North Carolina (9-1) remained in fourth place. The next three teams, Wyoming, Temple and Syracuse, occupied the same spots last week.
