Gorbachev and the Summit

Now that a start has been made, insanity seems to have, in some degree, abated, and the world can hope that the powerful might listen to the voice of reason, I have a modest proposal to make.
Let us return to the halcyon days when people were recognized to have rights just because we are all human beings. A basic human right used to be the privilege of moving about on this beautiful little planet. Why not persuade Gorbachev to open the gates of his great nation and offer to “let the people go.” Conversely, why not persuade Reagan to open the gates of our great nation and “let the people in.”
Both peoples are approaching the season when the birth of Christ will be celebrated, each in their own way. This would be an appropriate time to turn from the grim past and revive an era of hope in millions of breasts throughout the world.
Christ would approve.
