Barrington Hall

Two recent items about Barrington Hall at Berkeley (Part I, Nov. 22 and Nov. 29) have given the impression that the troubled student residence is located on the UC Berkeley campus and is controlled by a UC housing board. In fact, however, the hall is located three blocks from campus and is privately owned and controlled by the off-campus University Students Cooperative Assn.
The campus administration has generally supported the co-op system, recognizing that most of the houses are well run and provide a much needed addition to student housing. Campus officials have been deeply concerned about Barrington, however, and have strongly urged the association to make needed reforms there.
