Tanenbaum to Chair International Panel

NEW YORK — Rabbi Marc H. Tanenbaum, a longtime leading Jewish figure in ecumenical affairs, has been elected as chairman of the International Jewish Committee for Interreligious Consultations.
It is the coordinating body of major Jewish religious groups in their relationships with the Vatican, the World Council of Churches, the Lutheran World Federation, the Anglican Communion, Eastern Orthodoxy and other international religious bodies.
Tanenbaum, director of international relations for the American Jewish Committee and for 25 years its interreligious affairs director, succeeds Rabbi Mordecai Waxman of Great Neck, N.Y.
