Three young men who stole dynamite “because it was there” and didn’t know what else to do with it were responsible for a Nov. 3 explosion near Sacramento Metropolitan Airport, say sheriff’s officers who have arrested them. The explosion, 1 1/2 miles from a runway, only made a crater in an irrigation ditch, but was heard 20 miles away. Officers estimate that 600 pounds of dynamite were used. Officers, who traced numbers found on nearby packing materials, issued a warrant for Christopher John Bunnell, 20, of Folsom, who turned himself in, and later arrested Michael James Colvin, 19, of Sacramento, and a 16-year-old from Folsom.
