Chapman Men’s and Women’s Teams to Open in Doubletree Tournament

The Chapman College men’s and women’s basketball teams will open play today in the Doubletree tournament at the Hutton Sports Center in Orange.
The men (1-1) play Southern Utah State (1-1) at 8:05 p.m., and the women (2-0) play UC Santa Barbara at 1 p.m.
The University of Charleston (W. Va.), the third-ranked team in the NAIA, will face Stanislaus State (0-2) at 5:30 p.m. in the other men’s game, and San Francisco State and UC San Diego will meet at 3:15 p.m. in the other women’s game.
The men’s championship is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. Saturday; the women’s final is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Chapman’s men won their first game of the season Tuesday with an 83-76 victory over Grand Canyon. They are led by senior Kelly Huston (17.5 points per game) and sophomore Dave Roth (15.5 ppg). Corine Sandfry (14.5 ppg) and Karan Polk (13.5 ppg) led the Panther women to road victories over Sonoma State and Humboldt State last weekend.
