Wright, Reagan on Nicaragua
The assertion made by Assistant Secretary of State Elliott Abrams and others on behalf of the Reagan Administration that the Contra war is a purely Nicaraguan affair, and therefore the U.S. should not deal with Ortega is the most ludicrous and insulting statement produced by this misinformation factory in the past seven years.
The Contras were started by the United States, and without the United States they would cease to exist. Mired in outdated and immoral American imperialism, Reagan Administration officials have caused untold misery in Nicaragua, and now they are stating that it is none of our business!
For the first time in my life, I am ashamed to be an American.
