Councilwoman Rhonda J. McCune has become the city’s first woman mayor, and Councilwoman Donna L. Cheffen has been named mayor pro tem.
McCune and Cheffen, chosen by unanimous vote of the five-member City Council, were sworn in Monday night, as was the city’s newest councilman, Donald L. Bone.
McCune, 41, was first elected in 1985 and had served a one-year term as mayor pro tem. An account executive with a real estate appraisal firm, McCune replaces Don R. Griffin, who remains a member of the council.
As mayor for the next year, McCune will conduct council meetings and represent the city of 65,000 people at ceremonial functions.
Cheffen, 50, is an office manager. Like McCune, she was first elected in 1985.
Bone, who defeated 10-year council veteran Lester J. Reese in the Nov. 3 election, is a 44-year-old paint contractor who formerly served as a Fullerton Union High School District trustee.
