Six Burbank Football Wins Are Forfeited

Burbank High, which used an academically ineligible player because of an “administrative error,” will forfeit its six football victories this season, Coach Dave Carson said Friday night before his team played Hart at Burroughs High.
Transfer student Anthony Koulax, a starting offensive lineman, had not successfully passed the minimum requirement of four classes at his previous school, Carson said.
According to Carson, Southern Section bylaws state that such a student cannot play. Burbank Unified School District bylaws state that such a student would only be put on academic probation.
By the time Burbank administrators realized that the player should not compete, Burbank already had completed most of its season.
Carson said he was unaware the player should not have been eligible. “I wouldn’t play the guy if I knew he was ineligible,” Carson said. “I’m not that dumb.”
Burbank is now 0-8 overall.
