Reagan Picks Woman as Ambassador to Iraq

WASHINGTON — President Reagan named State Department Middle East expert April Glaspie as ambassador to Iraq on Wednesday, making her the first U.S. woman ambassador in that region of the world.
Glaspie, 45, is director of Jordan, Lebanon and Syrian affairs.
