New locks and heavier chains were placed on the gate to the Buena Park High School animal compound Wednesday in the wake of the weekend theft of a 400-pound steer, school officials said.
A part of the steer’s head and carcass was discovered in the wooden pylons of a flood control channel bridge at Knott Avenue and Melrose Street on Monday evening by a passer-by, police said.
Police said Wednesday that they are continuing to investigate the steer theft and the theft three weeks ago of two goats from the school’s agricultural center.
Buena Park High students raise cattle, sheep, goats, chickens and pigs at the agricultural center for sale at the Orange County Fair, agriculture teacher Pat Williams said.
