Pete Carpenter, 72, who with his longtime partner Mike Post won a 1975 Grammy award for their instrumental arrangement of “The Rockford Files” theme. Carpenter was a former big-band trombonist who with Post also did the themes for such other TV shows as “Baa Baa Black Sheep,” “White Shadow,” “Magnum, P.I.,” “The Greatest American Hero,” “The A Team,” “Hardcastle and McCormick” and many others. He is survived by his wife, Maybeth; a son; a daughter, and five grandchildren. In a Sherman Oaks hospital on Oct. 18.
