Fairfax District : Festival of Lights Canceled

The Fairfax Area Chamber of Commerce said that its annual Festival of Lights has been canceled because of the high cost of insurance coverage.

“There was no way we could break even on it,” said Paul D. Freedman, the chamber’s vice president for community and public relations.

He said vendors would have to pay at least $150 toward the estimated $12,000 or more for rain insurance and $8,000 or more for liability coverage.

“Vendors are just not going to pay that much for a one-day festival,” Freedman said.

The festival had been scheduled for Dec. 13.
