P. V. Estates : Improvements for Club

The City Council approved spending $270,000 this year to improve the Palos Verdes Country Club.

The club’s golf course and facilities, which are open to the public, are owned by the city and operated by the Palos Verdes Golf Club under a franchise agreement. The club pays the city 13.5% of its revenue, which is deposited in a golf course improvement fund.

Scheduled for improvement are the first tee complex, the fourth, sixth and 17th greens, three bridges and several sand bunkers. In addition, the maintenance yard will be redesigned and the underground gasoline and diesel fuel tanks at the yard will be replaced with new tanks that meet safety and environmental standards.

Work at the golf course has already begun, City Manager Gordon Siebert said, because the improvements were approved with the budget in July. However, because of changes in the renovation proposals, the matter came before council again.

In a related action, the council awarded a $7,200 contract to Alex Venetantis Painting of Huntington Beach to paint the golf club’s clubhouse and snack shop. Painting will begin within a month, Siebert said.
