Union Bancorp’s earnings fell 44% to $7 million in the third quarter because of continuing loan problems. The Los Angeles-based parent of Union Bank of California and United Bank of Arizona attributed the decrease to adding $21.5 million to its loan-loss reserve to cover potential losses on domestic loans.
