Rhetoric Heats Up Over Judge Bork

Why are those who raise their voices in opposition to Reagan’s policies, such as those who oppose the appointment of Bork, support for the contras or involvement of the United States military forces in the Persian Gulf, always condemned as “special interests?”
The term is never applied to his supporters who do have special interests--such as those who advocate mandatory recitation of government-designated prayer in the public schools, government interference with an individual’s right to make his or her own determination regarding having children and censorship of school textbooks to assure that they reflect the advocates’ own philosophy.
