A San Quentin Prison inmate tried to escape by dolling himself up in a dress and makeup, but guards were not deceived. Prison spokesman Lt. Dave Langerman said prisoner Michael Gonzalez, 27, serving 23 years for rape and robbery, used a false inmate pass to get from his cell to the inmate workshop area, where he applied makeup and slipped into a dress, shawl and a blouse, to mix with a lunch-hour group leaving the prison. But the performance failed to impress the critical eye of a workshop supervisor, who called guards to take Gonzalez back to his cell. “I guess he thought he looked better than he did,” Langerman said. “He made a rather ugly lady.”
