A Chinese government spokesman said that foreign journalists are barred indefinitely from Tibet and predicted a “long-term struggle” against anti-Chinese unrest in the troubled Himalayan region. The statement came a day after U.S. Ambassador Winston Lord met with Chinese Foreign Ministry officials in Beijing and expressed dissatisfaction at the expulsion from Tibet of foreign correspondents and “deep concern” about the human rights situation there. The 15 foreign journalists in Lhasa flew to Chengdu, the nearest major Chinese city, after being ordered to leave.
