Out on a Limb

I was pleased to read the open-minded and objective feature “Shirley MacLaine’s Mysticism for the Masses” (by Nina Easton, Sept. 6). Ever since MacLaine went public with her philosophy, she has been a popular target for ridicule among skeptics and bigots. I myself was a bit reluctant to be enlightened until I attended her seminar in San Diego last February. Although I still can’t go along with some of her tenets, the experience had a very positive impact on my life. It enhanced my creativity to the extent that I have nearly finished the novel I had, up until the seminar, put off writing. I hope others who have attended MacLaine’s seminars have been so lucky.
