New Irwindale Study Ordered

Irwindale must make an environmental study before going ahead with plans to build a stadium for the Los Angeles Raiders in a huge gravel pit, a Superior Court judge ruled today.
Judge Ricardo Torres said that the tiny industrial community, although it mentioned a possible stadium in an earlier assessment, still must do the environmental study to comply with state law. Torres told Irwindale’s lawyers that the proposed 65,000-seat state-of-the-art stadium was “a substantial change from anything you said before and that requires that you make an initial study.” Torres ruled in connection with a suit filed by Los Angeles City Councilman Ernani Bernardi and a group of Irwindale residents.
