The Region : Slumlord Ends Sentence
Convicted slumlord Milton Avol’s “jail” sentence confining him to his own dilapidated apartment building ended, but he delayed leaving because a cluster of reporters and camera crews awaited him. Avol, 63, had been ordered to spend 30 days in the Western Avenue structure with an electronic anklet that would signal if he went more than 150 feet away. Avol refused to leave, asking police to remove news people from his property. Police allowed the media to remain on the public sidewalk. A man claiming to be a spokesman later told reporters the Beverly Hills neurosurgeon had departed.
