The San Diego City Council on Monday formed a Cultural Arts Task Force to study the best way to distribute thousands of dollars each year in city funds to local arts groups.
By a vote of 5-1, the council established the 15-member panel, which will include representatives from the San Diego Chamber of Commerce, San Diego Taxpayers Assn., the Public Arts Advisory Board, COMBO and the San Diego Community Foundation.
Last year, the council distributed more than $800,000 in hotel tax monies to local arts groups, but some of the groups complained that they were left out in deciding how the funds were to be divided, said Councilwoman Gloria McColl.
The task force will recommend by December a permanent approach to distributing the money, McColl said.
Councilwoman Abbe Wolfsheimer voted against the proposal.
