Marcus Liberty, considered one of the nation’s top high school basketball players, will not play his freshman year at the University of Illinois because of Proposition 48, Coach Lou Henson announced.
Proposition 48 sets a minimum grade-point average and minimum test scores for high school seniors to be able to participate in college sports.
Liberty, a 6-foot 8-inch forward, averaged 27.7 points a game last year for Chicago King High School. Henson said he will attend school as a freshman and hopefully be eligible as a sophomore at Illinois.
