Sunland Fire Perils Homes Before Dying

A fire in Sunland burned about 100 acres of brush Tuesday, headed toward several homes but caused no damage, a Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman said.
The fire, which started about 3:30 p.m. in the 9500 block of Sunland Boulevard and burned toward buildings near Wheatland Avenue, was extinguished by 4:30 p.m., Fire Department spokesman Jim Williamson said.
A hundred firefighters, six in helicopters, battled the blaze. One, Alex Arriola, was injured, Williamson said. He was treated for a sprained ankle and released from Serra Memorial Hospital.
Children playing with matches are suspected of starting the fire.
