Datron Systems Reports 21% Earnings Increase

Datron Systems Inc. reported a 21% gain in fiscal first-quarter earnings despite start-up costs related to a new satellite communications venture in Texas.

Datron, a communications and defense concern headquartered in Simi Valley, said net income for the quarter ended June 30 rose to $378,000, or 14 cents a share, from $312,000, or 12 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue increased 40% to $7.1 million from $5.1 million.

The company also said its order backlog as of June 30 totaled $22.5 million, up 80% from a year ago.
