An additional 123 cases of AIDS were reported in Los Angeles County last month, bringing the total number of known cases locally to 3,340, health officials said Friday.
As of the end of June, the AIDS death toll was 2,069, or 62% of the victims, Health Services Director Robert Gates said in his monthly report to county supervisors on the epidemic.
The county has the nation’s third-largest number of victims of acquired immune deficiency syndrome, trailing New York and San Francisco.
