UCLA’s men’s athletic department has won the Knoxville Journal’s National Collegiate All-Sports Rankings championship for the second straight year.
The newspaper ranks intercollegiate athletic programs on a points scale, according to how well they perform in NCAA sports. The Journal’s 1987 ranking: UCLA 89, Texas 77, Louisiana State 76, Arkansas 73 1/2, Arizona State 58, Oklahoma State 56, Penn State 45 1/2, Oklahoma 45, North Carolina 43, Southern Methodist 42.
UCLA has won the award eight times in 17 years.
