SEOUL, South Korea — Police officials said Tuesday that 351,200 tear-gas canisters and grenades were fired to control 2,145 anti-government demonstrations that broke out during a 2 1/2-week period last month.
Police used an average of 20,600 tear-gas containers daily to battle the demonstrations, which occurred for 18 straight days beginning June 10, police officials said.
They said that 17,244 people were arrested and that all but 320 were either released with warnings or referred to summary courts for a short period of detention.
