TOKYO — Polish leader Wojciech Jaruzelski called on Japanese businessmen Tuesday to help his government in its plans to drastically overhaul the economy and make its industries more export-oriented.
Gen. Jaruzelski, on a five-day state visit, told the National Press Club that he expects an announcement soon on the results of talks on economic cooperation, including a car manufacturing project.
Japan, along with some Western nations, has been withholding official credits to Poland since February, 1982, because of the declaration of martial law there in 1981.
Jaruzelski told business leaders in a meeting Monday that Poland was considering a series of measures to welcome Japanese enterprises.
