An engine explosion resulting from a faulty bearing caused the crash of a Polish airliner May 9 that killed all 183 people aboard, a government investigative board said. The Soviet-built jetliner, on a flight to New York, crashed near Warsaw’s Okecie airport. Among the victims were 17 Americans and at least eight people with dual U.S.-Polish citizenship. The report said that the explosion caused cabin decompression, damaged the plane’s steering system and started a fire in the cargo area.
