A San Bernardino County man was thrown from a motorcycle and killed when it crashed into the rear of a pickup truck on Cerritos Avenue Sunday night, police said.
Richard William Peterson, 21, of Etiwanda was on a motorcycle eastbound on Cerritos near Almond Street at about 8:20 p.m., traveling at a “high rate of speed,” police said, when the cycle struck the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Robert Martin Castro, 20, of Long Beach was also thrown from the motorcycle, receiving major head and body injuries, police said. He was flown by helicopter to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was listed Monday in critical condition.
Police did not cite the pickup truck driver, who was not injured. Investigators did not know who was driving the motorcycle.
