Acquittal of Subway Shooter
I must admit that I am truly split on my feelings regarding the vindication of Goetz. Although I am black I would not dare to say what I might do if I were surrounded by four young thugs on a subway and I had a gun.
Still some pressing questions remain. Would Goetz have shot those youths if they were white? Would he have been acquitted if he were black and the men white? And most alarming of all, what did his act do to lend support to extremist groups such as the Ku Klux Klan?
I can tell you this, I’ll never walk up to a white man on a dark street and ask him for phone change again.
