LANSING, Mich. — Gov. James J. Blanchard and his wife, Paula, filed for divorce today, citing irreconcilable differences in their marriage, and asked for joint custody of their 16-year-old son.
The Democratic governor said he will continue to live at the governor’s residence in Lansing. Paula Blanchard’s attorney said she will continue to live in the Okemos School District, where the Blanchards’ son, Jay, will be a senior in the fall, and finish the final year of her master’s degree in telecommunications at Michigan State University while job hunting.
