The two-minute test firing of a Titan 34-D solid-fuel rocket booster, considered an important step in resuming military satellite launches, went off successfully at Edwards Air Force Base. The satellite launches came to a halt after one of the rocket boosters exploded April 18, nine seconds after liftoff from Vandenberg Air Force Base. The halt has led to a backlog of unlaunched American spy, early warning and communications satellites, officials have said.
