FDR Jr. Hurt in Horse Cart Fall

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Franklin Delano Roosevelt Jr., the son of the 32nd President, was in critical but stable condition today after he, his wife and their son were injured after being thrown from a horse-drawn cart when the horses bolted.

Roosevelt, 73, underwent surgery Wednesday night at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie. His wife, Linda, 47, and their son, Jack, 9, were treated and released, officials said. The accident occurred Wednesday on the family’s horse farm in nearby Millbrook. Roosevelt was a U.S. representative from New York from 1949 to 1954.
