Torrance : Palms Picked for Cabrillo
Saying they want to beautify Cabrillo Street, City Council members voted to plant 21 queen palm trees in the median between El Prado Avenue and Carson Street. The vote was 4 to 3 with Mayor Katy Geissert and council members Dan Walker and Dee Hardison opposed.
The opponents said they preferred trees with branches to palm trees. Palms were recommended by the staff because they can survive without a sprinkler system.
The cost of the palm planting was estimated at $25,000.
