After several tries, Orion Pictures has won an “R” rating on “Robocop” from the Motion Picture Assn. of America’s ratings board. The film--which deals with an android policeman’s efforts to wipe out crime in the near future--had been considered by the board to be too violent for children and was given an X rating “several times,” according to MPAA ratings chairman Richard Heffner. “We thought the X rating was fair due to the violent nature of the film,” Heffner said Tuesday. “Obviously, the film makers wanted the footage left in there, but what was submitted was an X as far as we were concerned.” The film is due for release in July.
