Center Jiri Hrdina and Dusan Pasek each scored two goals to lift Czechoslovakia to a 4-2 victory over Team USA at the World Hockey Championships in Vienna.
The United States wound up its preliminary-round schedule with a 2-5 record and will join Switzerland, 0-7; West Germany, 3-4, and Finland, 3-4, in the relegation playoffs starting today.
The points earned so far will be carried over, which is not the case for the medal round where the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Sweden and Canada begin fresh.
Sweden earned its spot in the medal round when it received a favorable ruling from a judge Monday at the expense of Finland.
