Fire broke out in the first-floor restaurant of a downtown Los Angeles bank building, raced up a utility duct and burst through the roof of the 12th-story penthouse. Twenty-eight people were evacuated and no injuries were reported. It took about 40 minutes for 13 fire companies to extinguish the blaze, which was contained to the first and second floors and walls surrounding the duct. The fire started shortly before 11 a.m. in the deep fryer of the Yorkshire Grill and caused about $250,000 damage to the California Pacific National Bank building at 610 W. 6th St.
