A strong earthquake rocked extensive areas in central and northern Japan, temporarily halting atomic power reactors and rail service, officials said. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the quake, which measured 6.5 on the Richter scale. The quake was centered in the Pacific Ocean, about 180 miles northeast of Tokyo. Three atomic reactors of the Tokyo Electric Power Co. in Fukushima, 125 miles northeast of Tokyo, came to a halt automatically, the company reported. There was no radioactivity leak, it said. Railway officials said a number of trains were delayed.
