The Board of Education of the Downey Unified School District voted unanimously Tuesday to renew for four years the contract of Supt. Edward A. Sussman. Sussman will be paid $77,979 a year, the same salary as his former contract, through June 30, 1991, district spokesman Michele M. Swanson said. Sussman also will receive $3,898 a year for mileage and travel expenses, Swanson said.
Sussman, 45, joined the district as principal of South Middle School in 1981. He was promoted to director of secondary instruction before taking over as superintendent in March, 1986.
