A Soviet theater that produced a play about Jews and Jewish immigration has been nominated for the Soviet Union’s highest cultural award, Tass reported. Among 39 nominees for the 1987 Lenin and Soviet State prizes was the Stanislavsky Drama Theater for its production of “40 Sholom Aleichem Street.” Also nominated were the late anti-Establishment balladeer Vladimir Vysotsky and film director Oleg Uralov for his 1985 documentary on late Kremlin leader Yuri V. Andropov. The prizes will be awarded in September.
