UCI Beats No. 2 Long Beach

UC Irvine’s Julian Barham and Darren Yates defeated Cal State Long Beach’s Richard Bergh and Patrick Hultgren at No. 2 doubles to give the Anteaters a 5-4 victory Tuesday over the 49ers, who are ranked second in the nation.
Barham and Yates, ranked No. 8 in the nation, broke Hultgren’s serve in the eighth game of the third set to secure the 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 victory at Long Beach. The match had been tied, 4-4.
Irvine, ranked No. 16 and a winner of 14 of its last 15 matches, also had victories from Barham (No. 3 singles), Yates (No. 5 singles), Richard Lubner (No. 6) and Mark Kaplan and Trevor Kronemann (No. 1 doubles).
